A one day, one night tour to the Mitchell Falls and the fascinating Mitchell Plateau. This tour departs from Kununurra by light aircraft after an early morning pickup from your accommodation. Arriving at the Mitchell Plateau Airstrip, we are met by our guide and taken to the Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge for breakfast. Guests have the unique opportunity to explore the lodge’s untouched surrounds and stroll through the Livistona palms and eucalyptus trees, as well as cool off in the camp waterhole. From the lodge it’s just a short 4WD trip to thunderous Mitchell Falls, cascading over the plateau’s edge and into the Mitchell River. The walk to Mitchell Falls with your Driver/Guide and an Aboriginal guide – where available – will captivate you from beginning to end. It starts on a well-defined yet remote walking trail leading across the sparkling Mertens Creek, before arriving at Little Mertens Falls. Here, wander behind the falls and into a cool and shady cave to view rarely seen Aboriginal rock art galleries. The final stretch of your walk leads over rocky terrain to within sight of the Mitchell River. Then, prepare yourself for what is sure to be a trip highlight – time at the vantage point directly facing Mitchell Falls. After lunch at the Falls and a refreshing swim, you will then have the opportunity to either walk out of the falls or take one of the (optional) spectacular helicopter flights that are available. Overnight accommodation is at the Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge. The next morning, you will embark on an 8.00am flight to Kununurra, arriving at approximately 9.30am.
